Hi, this is Miriam Moran of Omaha Wedding Video here at the DC Center Bridal Show talking JoEllen Simon of Simply Elegant Wedding Cakes (http://www.Simply-Elegant-Cakes.com) who makes some of the best wedding cakes I have ever seen or tasted, about some tips she may have when it comes to selecting cake for your Omaha Wedding.
JoEllen: Taste is very important, looks are too, but if it doesn’t taste good, nobody will want your cake! I am overprotective of my wedding cakes. I want to make sure your wedding cake gets to you in great shape. Every tier is boxed separately. I assemble your cake at your reception, usually taking around an hour just to make sure everything is right.
Miriam: What kind of things should a bride avoid doing when they select a wedding cake?
JoEllen: Flavors is one. Some brides will pick six different flavors for all the different tiers and then they wonder why they ran out of cake. This is because, the more flavors you have, the more pieces of cake each guest will take. Another thing, some brides go internet shopping and see all these fabulous ideas for cakes and of course they want them. When I quote them a price for that internet beauty, they don’t understand why that cake is so expensive. Well, it’s simple, it’s time. The more time a cake takes, the more it costs.
Miriam: I have to say, the strangest wedding cake I have heard of is one from a bride that does not like frosting. She decided to have her cake with no frosting. JoEllen, what would you have said to her?
JoEllen: YIKES! What I would say to that bride is think of your guests! I would suggest a separate small cake for the bride so she could have what she wanted, and have a big cake, with frosting, for her guests so they could have what they would want. That way everyone is happy.
